Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training and Recertification

Upon completion of this course, participants will earn an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate and possess the skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies.
This class consists of both online and in person coursework.

Participants will learn:

  • Responsibilities of a lifeguard
  • Facility Safety
  • Effective Surveillance
  • Injury Prevention
  • Emergency Action Plans
  • Water Rescue Skills
  • Victim Assessment Prior To Providing Care
  • Breathing Emergencies
  • Cardiac Emergencies
  • First Aid
  • Caring for head, neck and spinal injuries

All participants must meet the following requirements:

  • 15.5+ years old
  • 300 yards Freestyle
  • 100 yards Breaststroke
  • 2-minute tread without using hands
  • 10-lb submerged object retrieval 

**Participants of this course are granted free access to the Swim Instructor Training course for those wishing to become Swim Instructors for Route 66 Aquatics
